3 Nov 2017: IAA Relationship Manager Richard Hurst attended a dinner hosted at PwC in Melbourne on 2 November to raise funds for Ganbina – an organisation that operates an Indigenous school-to-work transition program.
Ganbina work with young Aboriginal people in the Melbourne and Goulburn Valley districts throughout their secondary school years to help them complete their education, undertake vocational training or tertiary courses, and gain the life skills they need to reach their potential and transition to the workforce.
The evening was a celebration of Indigenous culture including a Welcome to Country, traditional Indigenous song and dance from the Yarra Yarra Dancers, and panel discussions that included Indigenous leaders, Ganbina participants and team members.
“The most amazing part of the whole evening was hearing from three participants in the Ganbina program,” Richard said. “Each story shared showed the value of the Ganbina program and the need to support Indigenous kids to stay in school.”
The night concluded with a guest performance by 2016 Australian X Factor winner and Eurovision contestant, Isaiah Firebrace.
