Our Relationship Managers have been busy over the last few months, attending events across the country, meeting with Indigenous accounting and finance students and those working in the Indigenous education space.
July is, of course, the month we celebrate NAIDOC Week, an opportunity for all Australians to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This year’s celebration has seen a packed calendar of events throughout Australia, including IAA-hosted events in Melbourne and Sydney.
The theme for this year’s NAIDOC Week is ‘Because of Her, We Can!’ which celebrates the enormous contribution made by Indigenous women as leaders and pillars of the community at local, state and national levels. The theme acknowledges the significant role Indigenous women play, but also the way this contribution has too often been “invisible, unsung or diminished.”
Each year, NAIDOC Week organisers hold a national NAIDOC Week poster art competition, with the winning design featured on all NAIDOC promotional material. This year’s NAIDOC poster competition winner is Bigambul woman, Cheryl Moggs, from Goondiwindi, whose design, entitled tarmunggie-woman, interprets the 2018 NAIDOC theme ‘Because of Her, We Can!’. You can read more about Cheryl’s winning design here.
